Timber

Riverview Farm manages over 1,500 acres of timber and natural regeneration areas. This includes approximately 60 acres of pine plantations and 1,400 acres of hardwood plantations. Our diverse forest provides excellent protection and nutrients for Alabama wildlife.
Our pine plantations are made up of 33 acres of matured Loblolly Pine established in the 1980’s and 27 acres of younger Loblolly Pine planted in 2013.
In April of 2011 Riverview Farm, as with many Tuscaloosa families, experienced significant storm damage caused by a powerful tornado. This tornado destroyed close to 800 acres of old growth timber consisting of mostly hardwood Oak. Thanks to our outstanding partners, we were able to salvage close to 80% of the destroyed timber.
After the long clean-up process, the decision was made to restore the lost timber areas to their original state by replanting almost 300 acres of mixed hardwood Oak tree species.
Today, we manage a diverse species of Oak made up of: Cherry bark oak, Shumard oak, Nuttall oak, Water oak, and Swamp chestnut oak.
